SMS Environmental Takes Charge and Drives Towards a Sustainable Future with Electric Vehicles
SMS Environmental is dedicated to finding sustainable solutions for our operations. As part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, we are excited to announce that we are in the early stages of transitioning our business fleet to EV.
We are constantly striving for excellence and pushing the boundaries of innovation at SMS Environmental. As a growing company, we are conscious of our impact and are dedicated to delivering our services in a sustainable and responsible manner. Being at the forefront of the roll out of electric vans not only benefits our customers but also contributes to a cleaner environment. - Michael Crook, CEO, SMS Environmental
Our engineers Wickham Page and Mick Charnock will be leading the way in this green initiative by utilising these eco-friendly vehicles for their day-to-day work. By making the switch to electric vans, we are not only helping to reduce our emissions but also promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.
Both have said that they are enjoying the experience of driving electric vehicles, and believe that the contrast between the new silver van with its bright blue livery is eye-catching and helps to promote our company in a positive light.
I think it’s a good initiative. I am pleased to have been chosen as one of the first to receive an electric van, I’m enjoying driving it. It feels good knowing we are helping the environment. With ‘Environmental’ in our name, we should be.
Mick Charnock, Water Engineering Supervisor, Oxfordshire
The usability of the electric vans has been praised as each van provides real-time information on nearby charging stations and charger availability, making it easier for our engineers to plan their journeys and ensure they have enough battery for their tasks. Initially worried about range and breaking down, engineers found reassurance in the ability to travel up to 220 miles per day with the electric vans.
We believe that every small step towards sustainability can make a big difference, and our decision to roll out electric vans is just one of the many ways we are striving to do our part. As a leading water hygiene company, we understand the importance of protecting our planet and are committed to finding innovative ways to minimise our impact on the environment.
SMS Environmental had the opportunity to showcase one of its new electric vans in a photoshoot that took place at Oxford Brookes University. This comes after Oxford Brookes, a client of SMS Environmental, unveiled its own BROOKESbus fleet last year.
The university's BROOKESbus fleet is Oxford's first ever electric bus service, consisting of 21 buses, making it the largest electric fleet in the Higher Education sector.
Overall, the roll out of the electric vans has been a success, and we are excited to continue using them in our day-to-day operations. Not only are they good for the environment, but they are also efficient and cost-effective. Hopefully, this initiative will encourage other companies to make the switch to electric vehicles and help reduce carbon emissions further.
