Celebrating Our First Water Treatment Technologist Graduates at SMS Environmental
SMS Environmental is proud to celebrate the graduation of our first cohort of employees from our City & Guilds Assured Water Treatment Technologist (WTT) programme, marking an important milestone in the development of technical expertise across the business.
Following the announcement earlier this year that our WTT programme had achieved City & Guilds Assured status, we're delighted to recognise the colleagues who have now successfully completed the training and earned their credentials.
Their achievement reflects a significant commitment to professional development, with each graduate completing a demanding programme designed to build advanced technical knowledge and practical expertise in water treatment.
Recognising Dedication and Technical Excellence
The Water Treatment Technologist programme is one of SMS Environmental's most comprehensive internal training pathways, typically taking up to two years to complete.
Combining self-directed study with five intensive, week-long taught modules, the programme covers key water treatment disciplines, including water chemistry, boiler water treatment, closed systems, evaporative cooling, wastewater treatment and water treatment calculations.
Throughout the course, participants must demonstrate their understanding through practical activities, group projects and formal examinations. The programme concludes with a 200-question final examination, undertaken in person under strict examination conditions.
Successfully completing this programme is a considerable achievement, particularly alongside the graduates' day-to-day responsibilities within the business.
Investing in Our People and Our Expertise
Developing our people has always been an important part of how SMS Environmental maintains high technical standards and continues to improve the services we provide to customers.
The WTT programme builds on the existing industry experience of our employees, providing an opportunity to develop more specialist knowledge and gain formal recognition for their expertise.
Our first graduates will now be recognised as subject matter experts within SMS Environmental, helping to strengthen the technical knowledge available across our teams.
For our customers, this continued investment in professional development supports access to knowledgeable, experienced professionals who understand the technical challenges of managing and treating water systems.
The programme also provides a foundation for further professional development, including potential progression towards qualifications such as the internationally recognised Certified Water Technologist (CWT) designation.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
We would like to congratulate every member of our first graduating cohort on their achievement. Completing such an extensive programme requires commitment, discipline and a genuine willingness to develop professionally.
We would also like to recognise James Ray for his work in developing the programme and guiding it through the City & Guilds assurance process.
This first graduation is an important step in the continued development of our internal technical training and reflects our commitment to investing in the expertise of our people.
Congratulations to our first Water Treatment Technologist graduates. We're proud to recognise your hard work and achievement.
